Society of St. Scholastica

The Society of St. Scholastic Order
for the month of January is:

January is the fourth month for the Society of Saint Scholastica.  In October, we prayed for the Sisters of Our Mother of Divine Grace. In December, the Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.  Now, in January, David suggested the All Saints Sisters of the Poor as an order to support. I asked him if he would mind writing something up about them, so here is his go at it.

The Sisters celebrate their profession as Sisters following the announcement as an official diocesan priory
The All Saints Sisters of the Poor are a “baby order” in the Church.  They are convent converts!  About two years ago,  a group of the Sisters, who were originally Anglican, converted to the Catholic Church, while still being able to live in community as a religious order.  On November 1, the Archdiocese of Baltimore welcomed them as an Official Diocesan Priory, by decree of the Vatican.
The Sisters describe themselves as
a traditional Community desiring to uphold orthodox Christian faith and morality and to support the Apostolic tradition in ministry and practice. We are united by our common commitment to the One Lord Jesus Christ, and by the desire to live for Him.
With that unity, and made possible by it, there is great diversity both in our personalities and in our talents. In giving these as an offering to the Lord our communal life is enhanced and the skills and talents of each are used for the benefit of all.
The All Saints Sisters of the Poor are the American Branch of a Society founded in England, and which came to Baltimore in 1872. We are a traditional religious community, living under the evangelical vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. A mixed Life of Prayer and Work enables us to be flexible in meeting whatever needs and ministries present themselves.
If you are in the Baltimore area reading this, you can go to the Convent for Mass with the Sisters!  Mass is celebrated daily at 7 AM.  The Sisters have aRetreat House, along with a guest wing for women who would like to either discern a vocation or just stay with the Sisters.

One of the Sisters works in one of their apostolates

About How The Society of Saint Scholastica 'Works'
··†··
We started the Society of St. Scholastica as a group of laity and religious that pledge to support different orders of Women's Religious each month through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We are asking readers, bloggers, clergy, and friends to share this with others, and to encourage one another to "pledge" our support for the sponsored order of the month through the spiritual work of our choice.

The way you choose to spiritually support them is up to you. To show that you are participating, simply "sign" your name below, and then post about the group on your blog, with a link back here or to the SSS Page. Think "7 Quick Takes" but for Women's Religious. You can post your own information or you can copy and paste from here. We just ask that you give the basic info about the Order, some info about the SSS, and then link back here so that everyone can see the support of the community.
The point is to create an community of Catholics that lift up in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, those that dedicate their lives to the Church in doing the same. You can leave in your 'efforts' in the comment box, keep it private and just sign your name, or help them out monetarily.

Society of Saint Scholastica

The Society of Saint Scholastica (SSS) is a group of lay and Religious Catholics committed to the spiritual protection and support of Women's Religious Orders around the world. The unending and humble service by Women's Religious groups for the Church is often done so with little recognition or support by others. Therefore, the Society of Saint Scholastica was started to ensure that our sisters in Christ are supported in the spiritual warfare they fight in everyday on behalf of all of the Church Militant. We should support them not only because we are so eternally grateful for all that they do, but because they need our help to spiritually battle on behalf of the entire Church. As they have given their lives to Christ as brides of the Church, we the Ecclesia Militans (Church Militant) pledge our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to them.

"As they do for the Church, we shall do for them."

About the Society of Saint Scholastica
The SSS is a group of lay and religious Catholics who have committed themselves to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to various Women's Religious communities. Each month the SSS will "feature" a community, whereby all those pledging membership in the society will then commit to Spiritual Warfare  e.g. prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, for that group in assistance to their mission.

How to Join
Each month this page will feature the group which the society is praying for. There will also be a place on the bottom of that post to enter your name (and website/blog) stating your intention to pray, fast, and give alms. We ask that all members place on their website a link back to this page, or the 'post page' featuring that months group. From there, each member is asked to do what they can, based on their station in life, in the areas of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. You can also email Joseph if you don't have a blog, or want to be informed of updates via email.

What 'Groups' Will Be Featured
The SSS will only be featuring those groups of Women's Religious that are loyal and faithful to the Church and the Pope. We do not consider ourselves final arbiters of the faith, but it is generally pretty clear who does and doesn't strive to maintain fidelity and loyalty, and therefore only those groups which strive towards that faithfulness will be featured.

What are members to 'DO'
Pray, Fast, and Give Alms. What does that mean? Well, that is up to you. Women's Religious groups do these things in their own ways, and likewise we should do it in our own ways. Some of us are very spiritual and find ourselves in prayer more than others. If this is the case, you should devote your time in prayer to the group the SSS is praying for that month. It might mean devoting a Holy Hour, Rosaries, Chaplets, or other personal forms of prayer.

How to Support Them
The main ways that the SSS supports the Orders chosen each month are through the 3 Eminent Good Works: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. These methods of spiritual warfare are some of the most effective ways of supporting those women who have devoted their lives to the Church.
Prayer:
Pledging to support an order through daily or weekly prayer is a wonderful gook work you can do. This can be done through simple daily prayer, Rosaries, Chaplets, or even Eucharistic Adoration. The point is to pray with the intention of supporting the Order by asking for vocations, sending angels to protect the sisters in their daily lives, and for heavenly support in their mission as 'Brides of Christ.' If you feel comfortable, please comment in the comments section on what you are doing in support of the order.
Fasting:
The idea of fasting for the intention of another is done in a multitude of ways. Self denial of a certain food or pleasure, in order to gain favor for another is a common practice, but fasting from something in order to provide for another is also a method we can employ. For example, you buy a coffee each day on your work, instead take that money and put it aside and at the month send it to the order. The idea is that when we deny for ourselves, God will then provide for the other in acknowledgment of our love, sacrifice and penance. Again, feel free to comment on your means of support, if you feel comfortable.
Almsgiving:
Many of these orders live a very basic life but are still in need of material things. Monetary support is a huge way that we can support these orders. I will list various ways each month that we can specifically help out these orders based on their particular mission as an order and their various apostolates.
